Free hot meals & a warm welcome for everyone.
Providing free, nutritious meals, practical support, and a safe, welcoming space for anyone facing food insecurity, homelessness, or hardship in Birmingham.
Our Mission
Kings Heath Community Kitchen exists to reduce hunger, homelessness, and social isolation in Kings Heath and the wider Birmingham area by providing free, nutritious meals, practical support, and a safe, welcoming space for those most at risk.
We are a volunteer-led organisation, many of whom have lived experience of homelessness, using compassion, dignity, and understanding to support individuals and families facing food insecurity, financial hardship, and housing instability.
Through hot meals, clothing, outreach services, housing referrals, and community connection, we help people meet immediate needs while supporting pathways toward stability, wellbeing, and long-term change.
What We Offer
Every week we show up with hands-on, practical support that meets people where they are.
Freshly prepared hot meals provided free of charge to anyone in need — no eligibility check, no paperwork.
Warm clothing, toiletries, and essential items distributed to individuals and families facing hardship.
Guidance and referrals to housing services and shelters, helping people find pathways off the streets.
Street outreach to reach those who can't come to us, paired with signposting to local services.
A safe, welcoming space that tackles social isolation — sometimes being heard is the most important thing.
Beyond immediate needs, we support individuals toward longer-term wellbeing, independence, and positive change.
Voices from the Community
Real words from the people behind Kings Heath Community Kitchen.
"My name is Adam and I am the founder of KHCK. We started Kings Heath Community Kitchen last year with the idea to support people in our local community regardless of their circumstances or situation. The reason I started the project is due to my own experiences of homelessness and addiction.
The town I grew up in didn't have drug and alcohol services or any homeless support and I was left to find access to them on my own. When I moved to Birmingham 4 years ago I always had the thought that I'd like to be able to give back in any way I can, supporting those at risk of homelessness.
So far we have served over 600 meals and counting, helped find housing for a number of people, given out over 150 bags of clothes and have over 30 volunteers who help this project run. There's power in community initiatives — all I ever wanted was someone to give me a chance, and they did. Now we're able to do the same and see the people we support thrive."
"Kings Heath Community Kitchen was founded from a desire to support people facing homelessness, poverty, loneliness, and social isolation. What started with me driving around Birmingham with clothes and sleeping bags in my car boot has grown into a thriving community project that now supports dozens of people every fortnight.
Alongside my partner Adam, who is in recovery himself, we wanted to create a safe, non-judgemental space where everyone feels welcome and valued. Since opening in October 2025, we have helped over 20 people find accommodation, provided hundreds of meals, distributed clothing and essential items, and connected people with vital support services.
The most rewarding part has been watching the community come together. What began as a kitchen has become a place of friendship, creativity, support, and hope."
"I wanted to become involved with Kings Heath Community Kitchen when I was approached because I believe it plays a meaningful and valuable role within the community.
I have lived experience of addiction, homelessness, and isolation, and I understand firsthand the challenges and emotions that can come from feeling alone and unsupported. These experiences have given me a strong appreciation for the importance of connection, compassion, and community.
Being part of this gives me the opportunity to give back and support others who may be facing difficult circumstances, just as others supported me during some of the darkest periods of my life. I hope to contribute to an environment where people feel welcomed, valued, and understood — and where they know that whatever challenges they are facing, they do not have to face them alone."
